When trusted access becomes a threat

Employees, contractors, and administrators have access to the systems that keep your organization running. When that access is abused, Nodal detects suspicious network behavior, traces activity across internal systems, and conducts a targeted containment.

A valid login does not make every action legitimate.

A trusted user can use existing permissions and familiar tools to discover internal services, establish remote sessions, or move data beyond the scope of their work. Those actions pass through perimeter controls because the user already has access.

The challenge is understanding how individual actions relate to one another. Nodal correlates network behavior across devices and time, giving security teams evidence to investigate potential misuse and determine which systems are involved.

Capabilities

Follow what the access does, not just who logged in.

  1. 01

    See activity across internal systems

Nodal maps communications between workstations, servers, and other connected devices. Nodal examines which systems communicate, which services they use, and how activity moves through the environment, including connections that never cross the perimeter.

  2. 02

    Recognize behaviors that warrant investigation

CyberBrain identifies behaviors such as internal reconnaissance, service enumeration, suspicious remote sessions, lateral movement, and data staging. Correlating these behaviors reveals activity that may appear harmless when each connection is considered separately.

  3. 03

Trace the activity and its context

Nodal brings related behavioral detections, device relationships, and communication paths into a single Ticket. Analysts can follow the progression of an incident and examine the supporting evidence. Where Nodal Endpoint Agents are deployed, process attribution adds visibility into the applications responsible for the connections.

  4. 04

    Restrict the connections involved

CyberBrain initiates containment through supported security integrations and Nodal Endpoint Agents. Nodal automatically restricts threatening communications or contains an involved device, limiting further access while allowing unaffected operations to continue.

Use cases

Where trusted access goes further than the job.

  1. 01

Misuse of employee and administrator access

Legitimate permissions can be used to explore systems, establish remote sessions, or reach resources outside an assigned task. Nodal connects these behaviors across the network, helping security teams investigate how access is being used and identify activity requiring intervention.

  2. 02

Abuse of contractor and vendor access

An approved support connection can provide a route to additional internal systems. Nodal traces communications originating from connected devices and identifies suspicious discovery, linked remote sessions, and lateral movement. This helps security teams investigate activity extending beyond the expected support workflow.

  3. 03

    Data staging and exfiltration attempts

Data theft can involve several internal transfers before anything leaves the organization. Nodal correlates network transfer patterns with related discovery, remote sessions, and communication chains, helping analysts investigate potential staging and exfiltration and identify connections that may need to be restricted.
